The Study

The Study

The study evaluates where wind energy could be socially acceptable, technically feasible, and economically viable in Eeyou Istchee. It identifies potential and priority areas; it does not commit anyone to developing a project.

How areas are assessed

Technical criteria include wind speed, distance to substations and transmission lines, and the exclusion of lakes, rivers, and unbuildable terrain. Land-use and cultural information shared by land users helps identify areas that should be marked as No-Go — places where wind development would not be considered.

What is not decided

No site or parcel has been selected, and there are no wind energy projects in Eeyou Istchee today. Any future decision would require Cree leadership, community involvement, and land user participation. This study only prepares information for those future discussions.
